2024 MTV Video Music Awards: Espresso, sung by Sabrina Carpenter, took home the Song of the Year title. Women dominated the awards ceremony, with Chappell Roan’s inventive, medieval set being as the prime example. As the first-ever host, Megan Thee Stallion greeted the audience and made a joke about how the VMAs now stand for the “voluptuous Megan awards.” Later on, she gave a performance. LISA of BLACKPINK made her debut on the VMA stage as a solo performer, soaring through her two brand-new tracks, Rockstar and New Woman. After much anticipation, Shawn Mendes returned.
